St. George’s Dining Room Belize

St. George’s Dining Room (Radisson Fort George Hotel, 2 Marine Pde.,Belize City) – this is the Radisson Hotel’s main restaurant, which serves hearty buffet lunches with a different theme daily (Mexican, Caribbean, Asian etc) and a mainly Mediterranean dinner menu, with plenty of seafood and some vegetarian options. There are also buffets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and a big Sunday brunch. Dishes are reliably good.

Smoky Mermaid Belize

Smoky Mermaid (13 Cork Street, Belize City) – another hotel restaurant (this time, within the city’s Grand House hotel), the Smoky Mermaid serves tasty Caribbean and international food on a lovely patio, which features tinkling fountains and towering tropical trees. The meals are dependably good and the servings satisfying. The atmosphere also gets good ratings.

Serendib Belize

Serendib (27 Burns Avenue, San Ignacio, west Belize) – this place was opened years back by a British Army conscript of Sri Lankan descent. The menu here is a mix of Belizean, Chinese, and American dishes, along with Sri Lankan curries and teas. This eatery also serves the Wattalappan dessert (a Sri Lankan coconut custard with cardamom).

Rainbow Bar and Grill Belize

Rainbow Bar and Grill (off of Front Street, on beachfront midway between public pier and the Split, Caye Caulker) –this is another seafood-centric restaurant (with various grilled and fried fish dishes), along with burgers, fajitas and vegetarian dishes.

Nerie’s II Restaurant Belize

Nerie’s II Restaurant (corner of Queen & Daly Strees, Belize City) — Nerie’s offers most accompaniments imaginable to rice and beans, including curried lamb, stewed cow foot, lobster, gibnut and deer. You can start things off with a choice of soups, including chicken, escabeche (with chicken, lime and onions), chirmole (with chicken and a chilli-chocolate sauce) or cow foot, and round it off with cassava pudding.

Macy is actually the name of the woman who owns this restaurant. Macy’s offers spicy Creole cooking, with friendly service and good prices. The menu changes daily, but you’re always likely to find chicken, fish fillets and stewed beef or meatballs. Game, such as boar, gibnut and deer, often makes an appearance. The house specialty is fried chicken with a trademark special sauce.

Ko-Ox Han-Nah Belize

Ko-Ox Han-Nah (5 Burns Avenue, San Ignacio, west Belize) – this is another eatery that attracts visitors returning from tours of Mayan ruins at Caracol and elsewhere. One of the more popular restaurants in this town, dishes served here range from Belizean beans-and-rice meals, to Cambodian and Korean chicken specialties, Indian lamb curries, and assorted meals with Mexican, Southeast Asian and Indian influences. This, along with burritos, sandwiches, and salads.

Jambel Jerk Pit Belize

Jambel’s Jerk Pit (164 Newton Barracks Road, Belize City) – as the name implies, this restaurant focuses on serving Jamaican-style jerk chicken. Along with that, sautéed conch, coconut curry chicken, and fish escabeche are also served here.
